"Understanding People in the Past" is a series of books specifically developed to meet the requirements of the Scottish 5-14 curriculum in History. Each book consists of accessible text integrated with a range of illustrative material and a variety of pupil activities. The texts enable pupils to become familiar with a range of sources of evidence and the change, continuity, cause and effect. An understanding of time and sequence, an appreciation of heritage and the influence of the past on the present are also developed. This text examines medieval times in Scotland and is structured around stories of key monarchs and their roles. However, the book also takes a personalized approach, enabling pupils to understand the lives of ordinary people and how it felt to live in those times.
