The 10th anniversary special edition of this beautifully illustrated story has a powerful message of conservation and is full of things for parents and children to talk about. It also includes bonus content and activities.

Frann Preston-Gannon was the UK's first recipient of a Sendak Fellowship and spent a month living with the great Maurice Sendak himself at his home in Connecticut, USA. She worked on The Journey Home during her stay. The book was shortlisted for both the Waterstones Children's Prize and the Cambridgeshire 'Read it Again' Book Prize and was nominated for the Kate Greenaway medal. In 2015 The Journey Home was reimagined as a play by the London based puppet theatre, Little Angels.

Perfect story-telling. I don't know why I hadn't come across this before. Please get it and share with your children, grandchildren, nursery class, primary school class, children you care for, nieces and nephews. It's All About Stories

A thought-provoking story ... Visually, the muted tones and thick brush strokes give it an attractive earthy feel. [Within] the back matter ... you'll find some excellent suggestions for projects, activities and conversation starters to support the intended learning outcomes of the story. There's also a section full of animal facts. And another section describing all the successful conservation work that's going into preserving and protecting these animals which I found most uplifting. Storybook Mama

Another beautiful book reaching its tenth anniversary, and it's just as poignant now as it was then... his book also features a fab section at the back with animal facts, discussion points and much more! Really great teaching resource for introducing topics such as conservation and climate change... An excellent read for little eco-warriors out there, but all children would benefit from reading a book on this topic.

This is an absolute delight for the eye. Frann Preston-Gannon transformed this story in a beautiful visual masterpiece. The story is sensitively told, expressing the current environmental concerns we all should be worried about. The final message is one of hope in the future! A very special book. It holds a very poignant message that is even more important now than it was back 10 years ago at it's first release...
