Gavin Smith contributes regularly to the Campaign for Real Ale's monthly magazine, What's Brewing? He is the author of The Scottish Beer Bible, (Mercat Press, 2001), and Secret Stills (a study of illicit distillation, Birlinn Press, September 2002). He was a judge in CAMRA's Champion Beer of Scotland competion 2001). He kives in Tayport, Fife.
