Biopic - Iggy Pop Summary

Biopic - Iggy Pop by Gavin Evans

Biopic: Iggy Pop provides a visual testimony to the relationship between a photographer and his subject. Over the course of ninety minutes, and in front of a lens manned by Gavin Evans, Iggy Pop offers an insight into his life and his mind in a manner beyond that of the written biography. The result is a series of images more powerful and less constrained, more beautiful and less deliberate than anything you will have ever viewed of Iggy previously.

About Gavin Evans

Photographer Gavin Evans has seen his work reproduced in the New York Times, Observer, Time Out and Tempo magazines. Evans has produced powerful photographs when working with those from the world of music, film and theatre - Bjork, Tricky, Gary Oldman, Harvey Keitel and Bowie, to name a few. His interest in theatre has always been at the fore of his work, photographing productions for De La Guarda, Cirque Archaos, Robert LePage and Romeo Castellucci. He has also received commissions from Amnesty International. In 1991 Gavin Evans embarked on a self-initiated project that continues to evolve. This led to an ambitious collaboration with 10 internationally published and renowned writers. Joseph Brodsky, Arthur Miller, Jean 'Binta' Breeze and Wole Soyinka took up the challenge to create original text to accompany Evans' images. The artworks he produced examined the power of information. Human rights issues and personal reflections about torture, persuasion, control, subjugation, enslavement, deceit, lies, and childhood were explored. dis was exhibited at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Museum and featured in the first international touring collection of digitally oriented art, Fotofeis.
