Six Storey House Summary

Six Storey House by Geraldine McCaughrean

'Six Storey House stands in its little garden like a potted palm: tall and thin and brownly dusty. Once, a single family lived there. They kept servants in the loft, where other people keep luggage, and a cook in the cellar, where other people keep wine. Now each floor has a different address: Flats 1 to 6, Six Storey House...' Six Storey House Reviews

This is an absolutely glorious book. The language is fabulous and the theme of neighbourliness is tackled with humour and a light touch. Ross Collin's black and white illustrations give just enough detail to enhance the story without preventing the need for imagination. Buy it, give it, read it to your children, or just read it by yourself for sheer pleasure. - Achuka

... a joy to read ... a magical and hugely beguiling story. Ross Collins' illustrations perfectly complement the book reflecting its humour and inventiveness. - Books for Keeps

... the magnificent Geraldine McCaughrean, who writes with humour and soul about interconnecting lives in one eccentric building. - The Daily Mail

Descriptive phrases are masterfully introduced into the text and these conjure up vibrant pictures of the characters. The chapters are clearly set out and a generous size allocation has been given to the print, which is great for young readers. Interacting with the narrative is pure pleasure. - The School Librarian
