American Expressions of Liberty: Art of the People, by the People, for the People by Gerard C. Wertkin
The varied range of American craft and folk art which is presented in this book, published as the catalogue of an exhibition inaugurating the new building of the Mingei International Museum, San Diego, is drawn from private and public collections. All the works celebrate freedom of expression, and they include paintings, quilts, coverlets, weather-vanes, cigar-store figures, whirligigs, ships' figureheads and shop signs from the last 300 years. Among contemporary objects are ceramics by Laura Andreson and Otto Natzler, glass by Dale Chihuly, wood-turned bowls by Bob Stocksdale, and furniture by Sam Maloof and George Nakashima.
