This text is designed for introductory courses to literature studies. It surveys major critical approaches to reading, interpreting and evaluating literature, and includes student papers as examples - in draft and complete stages. The book covers three major literary genres - fiction, poetry and drama. In addition, many of the literary examples presented reflect a variety of cultural contexts.
