Summary

Brushstrokes is the first novel in a trilogy set in 1868 Paris about the celebrated portrait artist Charles Carolus-Duran.

Brushstrokes Summary

Brushstrokes: 1 by Gina Dale

When he met the beautiful, eloquent and aristocractic Marie, it was love at first sight. Even then, he had no idea how much his life was about to change. Their shared interest in art and their love of nature bonded them closely...ultimately creating an existence for Charles that he would never have dreamed possible. Follow the couple's relationship, from their first meeting and Marie's somewhat unwelcome rise to stardom as a result of their attendance as guests of honour at Napoleon III's Arts' Ball along with Manet, Courbet, Renoir and Degas.

About Gina Dale

Gina Dale is the creator of the Brushstrokes historical fiction trilogy (Brushstrokes, Darkness Falls and Drama Unfolds) which is based on the life of Carolus-Duran, a celebrated late-19thcentury French artist who was a contemporary of Monet, Manet and Renoir and teacher to John Singer Sargent. The first two novels tell of Carolus-Duran's courtship and marriage to the beautiful and aristocratic Marie, followed by their joy from the birth of their first daughter and their despair during the Franco-Prussian war. Drama Unfolds follows the life of Carolus-Duran's eldest daughter as she embarks on one of the greatest adventures of her life whilst navigating the social rules of late 19th century Europe. Gina Dale lives in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. She is an avid reader, and now writer, of historical fiction and romantic fiction novels.
