Lee Montgomery does not fit into the West Country town where she runs her estate agency. When she disappears, her fiance, asks his friend, Sheila Mallory, to keep her eyes and ears open for any information. Sheila finds that beneath the tranquil routine is an undercurrent of duplicity and violence.
