Silence Interrupted Summary

Silence Interrupted: A Silent Retreat Takes a Dark Turn by Helen Weston

It is December 2021 and Lizzie Ferguson has signed up for a silent retreat in an attempt to banish the disturbing ghosts uncovered by lockdown.

The retreat takes place at her old convent in the borderlands of north Cumbria, where she hopes to arrive incognito. Unfortunately, the retreat conductor is Sister Magdalen, the nun behind the traumatic events of twenty-five years ago, and there is nowhere to hide.

Things are clearly not right with the Community and Lizzie is quickly caught up in a search for her old friend Maria, now the Reverend Mother, who has disappeared, hours after begging Lizzie for help.

Lizzie believes that Magdalen is at the bottom of it and fears for Marias life. As the tension ratchets up, she enlists the help of her husband Hugh, and two of the sisters. But are they prepared to risk exposure to uncover the truth? Can the Community rediscover its soul and will Lizzie find her own version of redemption?
