The emphasis is on the modern practice of states and international organizations, and the book aims to combine clear exposition with rigorous analysis. The author's previous publications include International Law and the Use of Force by States, Basic Documents on International Law, Basic Documents on Human Rights and A System of the Law of Nations: State Responsibility.
