It includes new chapters that focus on the social effects of Teng Hsiaso-Ping's capitalistic reforms, the cultural impact of the Open Door policy, student unrest, and the evolving relations between Taiwan and mainland China. Other chapters and reading lists have been revised and updated in the light of current scholarship.
