Ineke Holtwijk (the author) is a correspondent in Latin America for leading Dutch newspapers and for television news for young people. ASHPALT ANGELS is based on what she observed while on assignment in Rio de Janeiro.

Wanda Boeke (the translator) has worked with writers and filmmakers in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Spain. Her translations have been published in the Netherlands, Great Britain, and the United States. She lives in Pittsfield, MA.
