Summary

This volume seeks to present a broad picture of the evolution of the ideas and organizational forms of the Naqshbandi order throughout its history.

The Naqshbandiyya Summary

The Naqshbandiyya: Orthodoxy and Activism in a Worldwide Sufi Tradition by Itzchak Weismann

The Naqshbandiyya order has attracted increasing scholarly attention over the last two decades, yet so far there has been no attempt to present a comprehensive picture of the evolution of the rich organization and ideational Naqshbandiyyah tradition

This book is therefore by now a highly desirable contribution that will fill this gap in the literature of this important Sufi order

Spanning almost a millennium in time and most of the Muslim world in space, this book provides a comprehensive overview of the important Naqshbandiyyah Sufi order

The Naqshbandiyya Reviews

'Weismann has made an admirable contribution to Sufi studies, useful for nonspecialists, especially political scientists, anthropologists, and others interested in Sufism. Let us hope that many libraries order it...' - Arthur F Buehler, Victoria University, New Zealand, International Journal of Middle East Studies, August 2009
