The Venturesome Voyages by J.C. Voss
This is the true-life story of Captain Voss who sailed from British Colombia for the Cocos Islands in search of a treasure, ending the 7000 mile voyage in Callao, Peru. The second part records a 40,000 mile voyage from British Columbia across the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans back to Margate in a converted REdwood canoe. Of his travelling companions, one left him in Fiji, the next was drunk and the next was lost overboard with their compass and binnacle light 1200 miles from land. In 1911 he set out for Yokohoma in the 25-foot Sea Queen and the description of this voyage includes an account of a boat caught and overturned in a typhoon. Besides writing of the sea, he talks of his many landfalls, people he meets and the ways he raises money to continue his travels.
