Tour De France, Tour De Force Summary

Tour De France, Tour De Force by James Startt

Now in paperback and with revised and updated text, Tour de France provides a chronicle overview of the world's biggest and greatest bike race. For three weeks each July, millions of fans around the world descent upon the French countryside to cheer on the Forcats De La Route, or Slaves of The Road - riders competing in the Tour de France. Covering over 2000 miles in 21 days, the cyclists make a grand circuit of the country, crossing over both the Alps and the Pyrenees Mountains before racing to the finish line along the Champs-Elysees in Paris. With pictures spanning from 1903 to present day, along with animated stories about the race and insightful text, this book offers a vivid visual history of an amazing international event.

About James Startt

After admittedly being nothing more than a flagrant piece of pack fodder in the 1992 US Olympic Trials, James Startt left competitive cycling to pursue photography and journalism full-time. Now, after 15 years of photographing, writing and riding, Startt has worked with many of the world's major cycling publications and edits the official internet site for the Tour de France. His photographs are exhibited at the prestigious Agathe Gaillard Gallery in Paris and are in major international collections such as the Biblioteque Nationale in Paris. In 1999 he co-authored In Pursuit of the Yellow Jersey: Bicycle Racing in the Year of the Tortured Tour with Samuel Abt.
