Inside Paris Summary

Inside Paris: Discovering the Classic Interiors of Paris by Jerome Darblay

Paris, the celebrated home of elegant salons, has long fascinated the onlooker. This volume paints a unique portrait of the city, documenting over a hundred of its overwhelming historic interiors. From the opulent staircases of the Second Empire Opera to the rational, unyielding lines of Le Corbusier's Villa Roche, the diverse ages and styles of Parisian architecture are uncovered.

Both author and photographer look at each interior with a fresh eye: whether it be a traditional boulangerie, a Belle Epoque brasserie or an aristocratic town house. Each picture is accompanied by a short text detailing what is especially of architectural or decorative interest as well as something of the history of the interior. This user-friendly book comprises an endlessly mesmerizing and fascinating look at the varied interiors - both well and lesser known - of the famous French capital.

Inside Paris Reviews

'If interior design porn like Wallpaper rings your bells, those canny souls at Phaidon Press have come up with some seriously horny stuff for your coffee table this summer. They are releasing their draw-droppingly gorgeous Insideseries in luxury paperback.' (Attitude)

'A set of stunningly illustrated books celebrates the best of interior design through the ages. The Inside series does not contain any prehistoric art, but its beautiful photographs capture manmade interiors over 2000 years.' (Yorkshire Evening Press)

'Go get the book to go with your T-shirt.' (FX)

'This series throws back the covers to reveal Western interiors that have been languishing in the shadowsthey capture the personality of each city.' (The Good Book Guide)

'The best of the three [Inside Paris, Phaidon, Mansions of Paris, Terrail, Interieurs Parisiens, Taschen], Inside Paris, concentrates on public spacesThere are just one or two photographs of each interior, and the quality is consistently superb. The choices are original: the Second-Empire marble staricase of the Italian Embassy, the late 19th century mosaics of Aux Cinq Poissons fishmongers, an art deco lavatory at the Madelaine. A thorough gazetteer adds a history, addresses and opening hours, if any.' (The Paris Free Voice)
