So, from what seem to me the most interesting, I have selected excerpts that relate to work either mentioned or illustrated in the text which I have prepared from entries in the diary which I have kept since 1967. I regard this book as an opportunity to interpret various events in my life in my own way; its purpose being to build a sense of intimacy which also has a flexible, entertaining structure. If it provides a brief facsimile profile of my painting and drawing, it will stand as a retrospective exhibition in itself.' About John Hubbard

John Hubbard (1931-2017) was born in the USA, in Ridgefield, Connecticut.After Harvard and military service in Japan during the Korean war, he studied art in the ambience of New York abstract expressionism before moving to Europe in 1958. Hubbard lived in Rome for two years then came to the UK where he settled in Dorset which has been his home ever since. Here, with his wife, Caryl, he created a garden well-known to connoisseurs. As a frequent traveller, seeking inspiration for his painting, Hubbard has been to all parts of the British Isles and to countries throughout the world including France,Greece, Morocco, Spain and Malaysia.
