The Oxford Book of Scottish Verse Summary

The Oxford Book of Scottish Verse by John Macqueen

This anthology spans seven centuries of Scottish verse with poems by all the major Scottish poets including William Dunbar, Robert Burns, Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edwin Muir, Hugh MacDiarmid, Kathleen Raine, Norman MacCaig and George MacKay Brown. The editors have lain greater emphasis on verse written in Scots rather than English, and have devoted generous space to the much neglected poetry of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This is the only anthology of Scottish verse to cover such a wide time-span and is reissued in paperback in response to great popular demand.

The Oxford Book of Scottish Verse Reviews
