John Sutherland has selected approximately 100 biographies from the Dictionary of National Biography to create this anthology of some of the most prominent figures in 20th-century British literature. He has also written a comprehensive introduction, which outlines the reasons behind the choices he has made. Around 100 articles have been chosen, written by men and women who are famous in the field of literature in their own right.
