Fair Isle Basics & Beyond Summary

Fair Isle Basics & Beyond by Kara Warner

In Fair Isle Basics and Beyond, you'll discover 17 projects that incorporate a variation of Fair Isle and contemporary stranded colorwork applications. We've assembled a collection of stylish accessory designs to help you get your bearings. In First Things First, try your hand on some simple two-color approaches using chunky and worsted weight yarns. Then, when you're ready to spread your wings, you can test your skills on the projects in Second Steps, which expands into using some lighter gauge yarns, and incorporating up to five colors with detailed color charts.
The variety of projects in Fair Isle Basics and Beyond will continually hone your color working skills, and keep your family and friends toasty warm in the winter months ahead!
If special techniques are included in this book, please list in detail:
Fair Isle Knitting: Fair Isle knitting is a traditional technique used to create patterns consisting of multiple colors. Traditional Fair Isle patterns use a variety of colors and shades, using only two colors per row, and are generally knitted in the round, without the use of the purl stitch.
In traditional Fair Isle knitting there are always two available active colors of yarn at a time; one is used to create the knit stitch, and the other is carried loosely behind the work. Fair Isle patterns can use up to 5 stitches of one color at a time because too many stitches of the same color will leave a very long strand of carried yarn.
