About Karl Ludvigsen

Karl Ludvigsen is the author of bigoraphies of Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart in this popular series, also of Classic Racing Engines and Classic Racing Cars. He owns the Ludvigsen LIbrary, from which many of the 250-odd magnificent photographs for this book are drawn.

After Colin Chapman signed him up for Formula 1 he was thrust into the limelight with the death of Lotus team-mate Jochen Rindt. Champion in 1972, only his second full season, Emerson was second to Jackie Stewart in 1973, and the only driver to race a turbine-powered GP car. Moved to McLaren in 1974 and won his second crown. In 1976, he joined the Copersucar-Fittipaldi team established by Wilson but, with uncompetitive cars, he struggled, retiring from Formula 1 in 1980. Sensational return to racing in the CART IndyCar series. In 1989 Emerson was Indy 500 winner and CART champion - first to win more than 2 million dollars in a season.
