Principles and Practice of Modern Chromatographic Methods Summary

Principles and Practice of Modern Chromatographic Methods by Kevin Robards (Emeritus Professor, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Australia)

Though many separation processes are available for use in todays analytical laboratory, chromatographic methods are the most widely used. The applications of chromatography have grown explosively in the last four decades, owing to the development of new techniques and to the expanding need of scientists for better methods of separating complex mixtures. With its comprehensive, unified approach, this book will greatly assist the novice in need of a reference to chromatographic techniques, as well as the specialist suddenly faced with the need to switch from one technique to another.

Principles and Practice of Modern Chromatographic Methods Reviews

This is a carefully written, broadly-based, text for either the non-specialists chromatographer or those scientists who use chromatography extensively in their work but dont consider themselves experts on the topic. It is significantly more than a simple introduction to the topic but by no means an advanced treatise...Overall, this is a welcomed contribution to the chromatography literature and can be recommended to its target audience. This reviewer would rate it among the besttexts of its type currently available and the authors have been broadly successful in meeting their stated goals. --Colin F. Poole, in JOURNAL OF CHROMATOGRAPHY The introductory chapter is one of the best that I have seen; it is comprehensive and educational...and concludes with an excellent and extensive bibliography....I found this to be an excellent book: by steering away from the more specialised areas the authors have written an easily readable and understandable basic reference for chromatography. I highly recommend it to anyone considering analytical chemistry as a career if only to whet their appetite! --CHEMISTRY IN BRITAIN

About Kevin Robards (Emeritus Professor, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Australia)

Kevin Robards majored in analytical chemistry and biochemistry. He worked in industry with edible oils and completed an Honours thesis on synthetic antioxidants. After some years investigating complexation chemistry and chromatography and a brief period examining the agricultural applications of rare earths, he returned to his passion, antioxidants, only now looking at naturally occurring members such as biophenols. The last years of his employment were divided between biophenolic research and studying academic and corporate governance. After five decades of research and teaching at all levels (undergraduate through post-doctoral) in analytical chemistry with a specific emphasis on chromatography, Professor Robards has now retired and was granted Emeritus status in recognition of his contribution to the academy. Professor Haddad's academic career has been spent at the Australian National University, the University of New South Wales, and since 1992 at the University of Tasmania. At UTAS he has held the positions of Head of School of Chemistry (1992) and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (1993-2001). He was an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow from 2004-2006, and an Australian Research Council Federation Fellow from 2006-2011. He was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor in 2011. Professor Haddad served as the foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Research on Separation Science from 2001-2013 and as Director of the Pfizer Analytical Research Centre from 2006-2013. He is currently an Emeritus Distinguished Professor.
