Perspectives on Marriage: A Reader by Kieran Scott
This collection is a major revision of the first edition of this work (including twenty new articles) intended for use in theology and spirituality of marriage courses. It is comprehensive and flexibly designed to accomodate a variety of approaches to teaching about marriage and the marital relationship, from the strictly historical and canonical, to sociological, psychological, and even ministerial perspectives. Striking a balance between solid theological material and stimulating readings on issues of intense current interest, the essays explore marriage in its historical context, the meanings of transitions of marriage, attitudes toward sexuality, communication and conflict, overcoming stereotypes, divorce and annulment, the spiritualtiy of marriage, and interreligious perspectives on marriage. The editors' introductions and questions for discussion enhance the accessibility of the text.
