The way Jazz figures it, life is pretty good. She owns her own home in one of Cleveland's most diverse, artsy, and interesting neighbourhoods. She likes her job as an administrative assistant at an all-girls school. And she works as a volunteer doing what she's passionate about: handling cadaver dogs. One day, while Jazz is training cadaver dog Luther in an abandoned building downtown, a body turns up on the scene. Jazz is stunned by Luther's discovery of this young woman, dressed in head-to-toe black, Goth-style. Jazz is even more shocked when she realizes that, beneath the tattoos and the piercings and all the pale make-up, is the face of a former student. Who killed her - and why? In an instant, the case has become personal... and even more so when the detective leading the investigation turns out to be a man Jazz used to love.
