Acceptance & Mindfulness Treatments for Children & Adolescents: A Practitioner's Guide by Laurie Greco
The field of psychology is witnessing the emergence and rapid scientific advancement of third-wave behaviour therapies, such as dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). The efficacy of third-wave behaviour and cognitive therapies has been demonstrated empirically across a wide range of clinical populations, including adults suffering with chronic pain, anxiety, depression, poly-substance use, thought disorders, and chronic illness. As acceptance- and mindfulness-based therapies continue to gain momentum and empirical support within mainstream psychology, it is essential to examine the adaptability and effectiveness of these approaches for children and adolescents. This edited book will summarize the diverse ways in which the third-wave therapies have been adapted for young people and their families. Chapters will summarize recent empirical advances as well as pragmatic issues related to acceptance and mindfulness applied to children and adolescents. In each chapter in the two applied sections, readers will be given practical clinical guidance that will show how to apply these methods.
