Ash Wednesday to Easter for Choirs Summary

Ash Wednesday to Easter for Choirs by Lionel Dakers

The editors have selected a richly varied collection of sacred pieces for this period of the Church's year, always bearing in mind practical considerations and liturgical needs. Pieces are presented in order according to the Church's calendar, moving from Ash Wednesday and Lent, through Passiontide and Palm Sunday, to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Eve, and Easter itself. The best of the standard repertoire is included alongside fine, less familiar, works. Ranging widely from the sixteenth century to the present day, this is a complete and practical collection for church choirs of all sizes and levels of ability.

Ash Wednesday to Easter for Choirs Reviews

Although this book is presented in soft cover, it opens easily for use, and both words and musical notation are very easy to read. Careful editing of early scores (e.g. 16th century music) enables modern choirs to tackle the performance of this repertoire with ease, while grouping the pieces of music according to the day, or season, enables the choir director to easily find suitable music for a specific occasion - a great timesaver! * Organ News (NZ), May 99 *
This is an exciting and superbly presented new collection of pieces suitable, as the title implies, for use from Ash Wednesday until Easter Day, but many are usable on other occasions, particularly at Sung Eucharists . . . I cannot recommend this book too highly. * John Ewington, Guild of Church Musicians 1999 Yearbook *
