Point Blank and Beyond by Lionel Lacey-Johnson
One of the major contributions to the success of Operation "Overlord" in 1944 was the extensive allied bombing of the Germany Army's supply system in northern France and Belgium. Lionel Lacey-Johnson has produced a detailed account of the part played by the bombers of the Royal Air Force and the Eighth US Army Air Force in this controversial campaign. Known as the "Transportation Plan" its aim was to limit as much as possible the Germans' ability to reinforce the Normandy battle area. To look at the effects of these raids on both the German Army and on the French civilian population, the author describes in some detail typical attacks on rail centres and German installations in north-west France and Belgium between March and November 1944. During the preparation of this book the author interviewed many former aircrew and French civilians, including Resistance members.
