About Liu Heping

Liu Heping was born in Hunan Province, southern China in 1953. He spent his childhood in the theatre and went on to become an acclaimed screenwriter, novelist and historian. His Ming Dynasty 1566 series was adapted for TV and first broadcast in 2007. He was also screenwrote All Quiet in Peking, which accumulated 400 million online views in two months, and was picked up by Netflix. Both of these works were centred around the theme of fighting corruption, and Liu has called for the lessons from these historical events to be applied to contemporary China.
