Author Mabel Hurlburt wrote in the foreword: With no thought of attempted comparisons, each of the subjects of these biographical sketches projects his own personality through records, letters, sermons and family recollections. Each in his own appointed time and place made his best efforts to fulfill the duties which he was appointed to serve. Each presents, even between the lines, a friend, a teacher, guide and minister necessary not only to the church but to the town. The inspiration of all these ministers is felt even today and will be long into the future.
