The Munros in Winter Summary

The Munros in Winter by Martin Moran

This is Martin Moran's account of his expedition to climb all the Munros in a single journey. Not only did he complete the trip and thereby become the first to do so in winter, but he also set a record for the fastest-ever completion of the Munros in any season. He describes the 1030 miles of walking and skiing, the 410,000ft of ascent and descent, the storms, snows and darkness of winter, and the terror of an avalanche and of scrambling down a mountain in pitch darkness and a howling gale. The book also gives practical advice on enjoying, and surviving, Britain's most challenging peaks, with a wealth of information on the technical problems presented by climbing and walking in winter conditions. Route-planning, preparation and back-up are also covered.

Table of Contents

The winter challenge; the storm-tossed start; first-foots in Argyll; the southern sweep; into wilder domains; rough bounds passage; blizzard over Kintail; skiing for survival; the Atlantic strikes back; roaming the big glens; in bleakest midwinter; the Cairngorms completed; the northern heatwave; climax on the Cuillin; the final surge.
