About Martin Simon

THE AUTHORMartin Simons is a retired Civil Engineer. He was born in Bromley, Kent, and raised in South East London, where a 360 acre park 'playground', literally over the back fence, nurtured an affinity with nature in the suburbs.Martin moved to the Sussex Coast, where he lives, near both beach and Downs, with his wife, Gilly. Their four children have fled the nest and have produced six treasured grandchildren. For many years, Martin was involved in girls' and women's football, managing cup and championship winning teams with Brighton and Hove Albion.Walking the South Downs and the Isle of Wight succeeded football as a dominant leisure activity, which soon matured into a passion - and then a mission! Existing walking guides consistently failed to impress, and were judged to be lacking in both accuracy and imagination. Martin was soon poring over OS Explorer maps, meticulously planning and recording the very best walking routes on the Island. This book is the culmination of his endeavours.Martin Simons is also author of:Walk! The South DownsISBN 9781904946144 (1-904946-14-3)published by Discovery Walking Guides Ltd.
