On the Move: Great Transportation Photographs from Life by Maryann Kornely
Airplanes, trains, bicycles, sailboats, automobiles, and even the Zeppelin: the available methods of transportation have multiplied dramatically over the 20th century. Some of the greatest photographers of LIFE magazine - among them, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Carl Mydans, Andreas Feininger and George Silk - captured memorable images of the ingenious inventions that enable us to go from one place to another. These photographs, selected from the Time/LIFE archives provide an insight to the human quest for motion. Accompanying the images are short excerpts from 20th-century literature, including quotes from John Steinbeck, David Halberstam, Ernest Hemingway and Jack Kerouac.
