Ecological Change in the Uplands Summary

Ecological Change in the Uplands by Michael B. Usher

This volume contains 32 of the papers presented at a joint meeting of the Ecological Affairs Committee of the British Ecological Society and the Nature Conservancy Council held in Edinburgh, 1987. Although there has been a long-standing interest in the uplands of Britain, the Edinburgh meeting was planned during a time of mounting interest in the British Upland scene, and the organizers aimed to link together as many facets of pure and applied ecological research as was possible within the time constraint of the meeting. Aspects of forestry, agriculture, recreation, acid pollution and wildlife conservation are all included.

Table of Contents

Introduction; ecological change in the uplands; Upland environments and long-term changes; Land-use changes and their impacts; Management of ecological change.
