Sir John Coke had a remarkably long and important public career extending from the last year of Elizabeth to the eve of the Civil War. This new study illuminates many facets of early Stuart politics, including the Parliaments of the 1620s, the divided court of the 1630s and the general incapacity of Stuart Government to reform itself.
