About Nancy Hunt (California State University, Los Angeles)

Nancy Hunt is a professor in the Division of Special Education and Counseling at California State University, Los Angeles. She teaches in the Early Childhood Special Education program, supervises students in early intervention and preschool settings, and frequently teaches the introductory special education class for which she and Dr. Kathleen Marshall wrote this text. Dr. Hunt received her M.A. in special education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. She taught deaf children for nine years at the Lexington School for the Deaf in New York and in California. She is married and has three daughters. Kathleen Marshall received her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Virginia in 1983. As an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina, her responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in introduction to special education, learning disabilities, mental retardation, and severe and profound handicapping conditions. She also teaches special education methods courses for pre-service teachers and advanced master's and doctoral courses in special education. Her areas of specialization are learning disabilities and mental retardation. Her experience as a special educator includes teaching elementary school children with learning disabilities and mental retardation, and ongoing service as a special education consultant for mainstreaming programs and curriculum development in a local school district. At the University of South Carolina, she is the field practicum supervisor for pre-service teachers specializing in behavior disorders, learning disabilities, and mental retardation.
