Through the China Inland Mission he was a prominent figure in Britain often speaking on missions and familiar to Cabinet Ministers as he fought against slavery and opium. He had a great influence on Godrs"s work in China through the hundreds he sent out including his own children.

About Norman Cliff

Dr Norman Howard Cliff (1925-2007), was born in Yantai, China, into a missionary family working for the China Inland Mission. From 1941 to 1945 he was interned at the Weifang concentration camp by the occupying Japanese military. Cliff earned an M.Phil from the Open University and a PhD from Buckingham University. In addition to his thesis, he wrote seven books about China and the history of missions in that country. Cliff visited the land of his birth numerous times and had was in contact with many Christian leaders who suffered for their faith.
