Summary

A history of the rise of capitalism from its early days through the industrial revolution until today.

The Twilight of the Nation State Summary

The Twilight of the Nation State: Globalisation, Chaos and War by Prem Shankar Jha

This book offers an in-depth historical perspective on the rise of capitalism, written by one of the leading scholars of the Global South.

Arguing that globalisation is poorly understood, it offers a new synthesis of political and economic theory that sheds light on the consequences of rapid industrialisation world wide.

Writing from outside the usual Western perspective, the book challenges many of the usual preconceptions about the impact of globalisation.

The Twilight of the Nation State Reviews

'By far the most convincing case I have seen for the globalisation hypothesis, as well as being an impassioned manifesto against the rich and powerful on behalf of the world's disempowered majority' -- Louis Proyect
'A thoughtful, well-documented, and passionately argued account of the danger that the present crisis of US hegemony may be headed toward endless chaos rather than a new world order. It should be read by anyone who cares about the future of world society' -- Giovanni Arrighi, Johns Hopkins University
'Prem Jha is one of the few experts on globalisation from the developing world' -- Shashi Tharoor, Undersecretary General for Public Affairs of the United Nations, New York
