Birds of the Middle East Summary

Birds of the Middle East by Richard Porter

This is a completely revised second edition of the bestselling field guide to the birds of the Middle East, covering Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, the Arabian peninsula and Socotra. For the first time, the text and maps appear opposite the plates, and as a consequence there are fewer species per plate than before. The text and maps have been fully revised and many new artworks have been painted by the three illustrators. There are more than 100 new species in this new edition, which features more than 820 species in total. This is an essential field guide for anyone visiting the Middle East.

Birds of the Middle East Reviews

'Richard Porter and Simon Aspinall have extensively reworked the 1996 birders bible, with the result being an almost entirely new book to delight bird enthusiasts in the Middle East.' Centre for Middle Eastern Plants (5th October 2010) 'this book is essential to anyone visiting the region and contains a mine of contemporary information; we should feel privileged to have such an excellent field guide to aid any perplexing identification issues.' Birdwatch (November 2010) 'Middle East aficionados will warmly welcome this revised second edition of an outstanding guide to the region's birds' Bulletin of the British Ornothologists Union (2010)

About Richard Porter

Richard Porter has been involved with birds in the Middle East since 1966 and is an adviser on bird conservation for BirdLife International. He is the author or co-author of several books on the Middle East and the groundbreaking Flight Identification of European Raptors. Simon Aspinall has lived in the UAE since 1993, pursuing his professional interests in conservation and ecology throughout the Middle East and Caucasus. He has published extensively on natural history, especially within Arabia and with an emphasis on birds; traveling widely in that quest he has probably seen more species in the region than any other modern-day birder. John Gale, Mike Langman and Brian Small are world-renowned bird illustrators with many books to their credit.
