Elstree Aerodrome Summary

Elstree Aerodrome: 90 Years in Pictures by Richard Riding

This work examines the aircraft, events and personalities that have shaped Elstree over nearly 70 years, from its humble beginnings in the 1930s as a landing strip associated with a country club to one of the foremost general aviation airfields in the country.

About Richard Riding

Richard Riding joined Derby Aerosurveys at Elstree Aerodrome in 1958 as an apprentice, later becoming the company's chief photographer. He founded Aeroplane Monthly in 1973 and remained its editor until 1998. He is now a freelance writer. Grant Peerless, a retired civil engineer, discovered Elstree Aerodrome in the early 1950's and has been a visitor ever since. They both live in St Albans.
