Finds from the Frontier Summary

Finds from the Frontier by Rob Collins

Finds from the Frontier brings together papers given at a conference held at Newcastle upon Tyne in 2008. Its aim is to elucidate the life of the 4th-century limitanei of Britain through their material culture. The papers consider whether the excavated artefacts justify the traditional implication that the period is one of declining standards and largely come to the conclusion that, on the contrary, the period was rich in artefacts that have much to tell us about the late frontier.

Finds from the Frontier Reviews

I recommend this book to members: not just those with an interest in Hadrians Wall and frontier studies but also those interested in a broader understanding of life in fourth century Roman Britain. The papers in this report advance our knowledge considerably and offer much insight into a dynamic frontier society at the end of the Roman period in Britain.' -- ARA News, Issue 24 ARA News, Issue 24
