The Sixth Floor Summary

The Sixth Floor by Robin Reilly

Denmark's situation in the Second World War was unique. The Danish struggle against German occupation took place against a background of a continuing Danish administration left, mostly, alone by the occupying power; resisting Danes were put into a moral dilemma. But freedom didn't last, and prominent figures were imprisoned in the Shell building in the centre of Copenhagen. The RAF raid on that building was one of the most difficult and daring low-level daylight raids of the whole war. It was a triumph of planning and daring execution: but, as the result of an accident, it was also a sickening and terrible tragedy. 'A contribution to history, stylishly written and, at times, intolerably moving.' The Irish Times
