Electrical Power Systems Quality Summary

Electrical Power Systems Quality by Roger Dugan

This title contains more than 200 pages of new material! Here is the clearest, most complete reference on understanding the causes of power quality problems and learning how to prevent them. Nearly twice the size of the previous edition, Electric Power Systems Quality, 2e has been expanded and updated to reflect the increasing sensitivity of microelectronic devices and the ever-growing stress placed upon the power grid. Written in a highly readable, easily accessible style - minus the heavy-duty math, this much-needed resource discusses every essential aspect of basic power quality and methods used to protect electronic systems.Coverage includes: how to protect against voltage sags and interruptions; the principles of harmonics and filtering; common wiring and grounding problems, along with solutions; transient overvoltages due to lightning and switching; the technical impact of problems on various load equipment; and, utility and end-user strategies for improved power qualities. New to this edition are: maintaining power quality in distributed generation systems; benchmarking power quality; power quality in electric wiring; and, much more. Invaluable to everyone working in the field, from utility engineers to industrial plan technicians to power quality consultants, Electrical Power Systems Quality, 2e is the book you should own if you could have only one book on the subject.

Electrical Power Systems Quality Reviews

A reader from Santa Cruz, CA; Dugan's book is an excellent reference on power quality. Nicely organized, starting with terms and definitions, and finishing with advice on making measurements. Very readable, with minimal use of equations, and maximum use of sketches, drawings, and graphical data. A must have for every power quality professional

About Roger Dugan

Roger C. Dugan (Knoxville, TN) is a senior Technical Executive with the Electric Power Research Institute. He has a BSEE degree from Ohio University and an ME degree in electric power engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has over 40 years experience in electric power quality and distribution system analysis. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his work in harmonics and transients in power systems. Dr. Surya Santoso (Austin, TX) is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas. He earned MSE and PhD degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in electrical engineering. Dr. Santoso's research interests are in electric power quality and wind power systems. His most significant contributions are in pioneering and advancing the engineering science of root-cause analysis of electric power quality disturbance phenomena, education of electric power quality, and in the time-domain modeling and simulation of electromagnetic transients and wind power systems for integration studies. While working in the industry, he was a principal investigator for over twenty industrial and utility studies in power quality and wind power integration. His research in academia has been supported by EPRO, TVA, ONR, NSF, NREL, Electrotek, and Manitoba HVDC Research Center. Mark F. McGranaghan (Knoxville, TN) is Vice President of the Power Delivery and Utilization Sector for the Electric Power Research Institute. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Toledo and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He was vice chairman of the IEEE SCC 22 Power Quality Standards Coordinating Committee and a technical advisor for the IEC SC77A (International Power Quality Standards). He has taught seminars and workshops around the world had has worked with electric utilities and end users to solve power quality problems. H. Wayne Beaty (Flower Mound, TX) is editor of McGraw-Hills Standard Handbook of Electrical Engineering and Handbook of Electric Power Calculations, co-editor of Electric Motor Handbook, editor of Alexander Publications An Introduction to Electric Power Distribution. He is the former managing editor of Electric Light and Power and Power Delivery Product News. Beaty is a Senior Member of IEEE.
