Echoes of the Dales 80s Summary

Echoes of the Dales 80s: v. 1: 1980-1983 by Ron Duggins

Local characters, charity events, sporting achievements of all kinds, village shows, schools, shops, factories and royal visits are just some of the many subjects that go to make up this fascinating collection from local photographer Ron Duggins' latest book Echoes of the Dales 80s. Ron Duggins took his first Press photographs in 1959 - within two months of finishing his National Service in the Royal Air Force. For many years he worked alongside his father Herbert and brother Adrian at the Matlock Mercury, but then left for a while to gain more experience in Sheffield and Liverpool before returning to Matlock. As a staff man and a freelance photographer Ron was always on hand to record historic events, tragedies and on occasions the lighter side of life in the Derbyshire Dales. In this series of books, Ron has selected just some from his vast photographic archive of around 100,000 negatives. As the number of images available increases for the 1980s it became necessary to cover the decade in two books - Part 1 covering the years 1980 to 1983 and Part 2 from 1984 to 1989. Part 2 will be published later in 2009.
