Automatic Control Systems Summary

Automatic Control Systems: With MATLAB by S. Palani

This book is designed to serve as a textbook for courses offered to undergraduate students enrolled in Electrical Engineering and related disciplines. The book provides a comprehensive coverage of linear system theory. In this book, the concepts around each topic are well discussed with a full-length presentation of numerical examples. Each example is unique in its way, and it is graded sequentially. This book highlights simple methods for solving problems. Even though, the subject requires a very strong mathematical foundation, wherever possible, rigorous mathematics is simplified for a quick understanding of the basic concepts. The book also includes select numerical problems to test the capability of the students. Time and frequency domain approaches for the analysis and design of linear automatic control systems have been explained using state-space and transfer function models of physical systems. All the chapters include a short theoretical summary of the topic followed by exercises on solving complex problems using MATLAB commands. In addition, each chapter offers a large number of end-of-chapter homework problems. This second edition includes a new chapter on state-space modeling and analysis. Detailed conceptual coverage and pedagogical tools make this an ideal textbook for students and researchers enrolled in electrical engineering and related programs.

Automatic Control Systems Reviews

This apparently impressive book (908 pages) is in fact a textbook for undergraduates in automatic control, strongly relying on the courses taught in the Engineering Colleges of India . This fact can ensure an impressive number of readers . The book has no Reference list but the field tackled by it is covered by many references, much more recent than the classical aforementioned ones. (Vladimir Rasvan, zbMATH 1496.93002, 2022)

About S. Palani

Dr. Sankaran Palani obtained his B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1966 from the University of Madras, M.Tech. in Control Systems Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1968, and Ph.D. in Control Systems Engineering from the University of Madras in 1982. He has a wide teaching experience of over four decades. He started his teaching career in 1968 at the erstwhile Regional Engineering College (now National Institute of Technology), Tiruchirapalli, in the department of EEE and occupied various positions. As Professor and Head, he took the initiative to start the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department. After a meritorious service of over three decades in REC, Tiruchirapalli, he joined Sudharsan Engineering College, Pudukkottai, as the founder principal. He established various departments with massive infrastructure.

He has published more than a hundred research papers in reputed international journals and has won many cash awards. Under his guidance, 17 research scholars were awarded Ph.D. and a large number of scholars are pursuing Ph.D. He has carried out several research projects worth about several lakhs rupees funded by the Government of India and AICTE. As the theme leader of the Indo-UK, REC Project on Energy, he has visited many universities and industries in the UK. He is the author of the books titled Control Systems Engineering, Signals and Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Linear System Analysis, and Automatic Control Systems. His research areas are the design of controllers for dynamic systems, digital signal processing, and image processing. Dr. S. Palani is the reviewer of technical papers of reputed International Journals. He has chaired/organized many international conferences and workshops.
