Two Billion Heartbeats Summary

Two Billion Heartbeats by Sarah Norgate

In this book, Sarah Norgate immerses us in the psychology of time. She looks at differing attitudes to and perceptions of time all around the world: why do national proverbs from Sicily reinforce the importance of not rushing and taking things slow, while proverbs from highly industrialized countries are economically-driven ('Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today')? Why do some countries, like Japan, have a 24/7 culture, while others are only just coming to terms with Sunday opening for shops?

About Sarah Norgate

Sarah Norgate was born in Portsmouth in 1970 and gained her doctorate in Psychology from the University of Warwick. She divides her time between Milton Keynes and a rural corner of Lancashire where she winds her pace of life right down. Sarah is a developmental psychologist in the Child and Youth Studies Research group at The Open University and an athlete in Milton Keynes Athletics Club. In 2004, she was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to study the provision of psychological care for children with eye cancer in Los Angeles, Toronto and Paris.
