A MUST for all little girls (and boys who fancy being a princess) of that level. A clearly laid out book with many original and arranged pieces for exactly that level. Sarah Walker knows what a young hand likes to do (mirror movements, not too many changes of position please) and writes attractively within the brief. Some of the pieces offer optional duet parts for teacher, parent or an older sibling. As one now comes to expect from Faber publishing the layout is well spaced and clear, careful fingering. As a bonus, Sarah Walker dots a few fun activities about the pages, but unobtrusively, and without distracting from the music. Highly recommended!
Piano Professional, Spring 2009
We all now know that men are from Mars and women from Venus so it was only a matter of time before someone translated this into piano books for princesses and heroes! This is a collection of graded pre-Grade 1 pieces aimed at little girls - the clue is the pink cover with princesses on it. It features songs and pieces about princesses with non-musical games and puzzles attached to some and teacher accompaniments to others. Some of the favourites are bound to be Beauty and the Beast and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo but there are also some effective arrangements of traditional songs and pieces by Tchaikovsky and Mozart and original pieces by Walker herself. The book begins with an easy, not hands together, version of the Mulan theme and then progresses onto pieces with hands together in one position, through to others with hand extensions, any of which will help pupils gain confidence playing and enjoy the music as well.
