Summary

Why the pundits want to spread a myth about the death of faith, particularly in Britain.

God's Unwelcome Recovery Summary

God's Unwelcome Recovery: Why the new establishment wants to proclaim the death of faith by Sean Oliver-Dee

There is a huge disconnect between the official account of church demise and the death of faith peddled in political and media circles, and the vitality of churches in every corner of the country. Why do the pundits ignore what is happening? Sean Oliver-Dee counters that the ongoing health of the church is being ignored because it contradicts three myths that the 'new establishment' wants to assert: that the gradual death of religion is a good excuse to ignore the views of Christians; that encouraging Christianity to die will benefit society; and that scientific progress will necessarily cause the death of faith. The growth of the church runs contrary to all three assertions. It's time to challenge the myths.

God's Unwelcome Recovery Reviews

A stimulatingly counter-intuitive take on the state of British Christianity, this should be read by anyone - believer or non-believer - who is interested in the future of religion in Britain. -- Tom Holland, author of Rubicon and Millennium
This book offers a timely word of encouragement to British Christians and a robust challenge to the narrative of church decline ... Anyone who has been enticed by the story of the decline of British Christianity will be forced to review their evidence and their assumptions. -- Dr Jonathan Chaplin, Director of the Kirby Laing Institute for Christian Ethics, Tyndale House, Cambridge
This small book raises big questions that need to be addressed. You will find in these pages provocative and challenging analysis. Have a read and then join the debate! -- Dr Krish Kandiah, President of the London School of Theology
