Cognition and Motivation: Forging an Interdisciplinary Perspective by Shulamith Kreitler (Tel-Aviv University)

This collection examines the many internal and external factors affecting cognitive processes. Editor Shulamith Kreitler brings together a wide range of international contributors to produce an outstanding assessment of recent research in the field. These contributions go beyond the standard approach of examining the effects of motivation and emotion to consider the contextual factors that may influence cognition. These broad and varied factors include personality, genetics, mental health, biological evolution, culture and social context. By contextualizing cognition, this volume draws out the practical applications of theoretical cognitive research while bringing separate areas of scholarship into meaningful dialogue.

Cognition and Motivation Reviews

"...encourage readers to explore how both internal and external motivational factors influence a variety of cognitive processes.... The book's 22 essays are written by an international roster of recognized researchers, and they push motivation's and cognition's respective conceptual boundaries in new directions.... Researchers are apt to find thought-provoking connections to their own work, and less experienced readers will have a new look at established topics. A fine resource... Recommended..." --D. S. Dunn, Moravian College, CHOICE
"...Cognition and Motivation: Forging an Interdisciplinary Perspective contains chapters by Shulamith Kreitler and some of the better known workers in the field of cognition and motivation. The book is every bit as worthwhile as her earlier books with Hans Kreitler and deserves a wide readership.... There are 22 chapters by authors from a variety of countries, representing a truly international spectrum of scholarship.... there is something for everyone here. Most of the chapters are quite brief, offering an introduction to a particular aspect of the cognitionmotivation interface. It is not possible to select some chapters that are more useful than others. All are presented at a high level and for the most part are quite readable." --Dr. John Benjafield, professor emeritus at Brock University, PsycCRITIQUES
