This Bear, That Bear Reviews

This is a charming rhyming book that lists lots of different bears in a 'bear parade'. The pictures are wonderfully detailed and engaging and the text is easy to follow. I read this book to my class of 4/5 year olds; they thoroughly enjoyed the book as they loved looking at the different bears, commenting on ones that looked similar to their own bears, or ones that were doing humorous things. The rhyming text makes it easy for younger children to follow, and my class enjoyed the singsong nature of the book. When I asked them what they liked about the story, they mostly named different bears from the pictures - I agree with them, some of these are a real treat for the eyes! This is an easy-going book that would be great as a pre-bedtime read with younger children. -- Lizi Coombs * Reading Zone *
This Bear That Bear, Sian Wheatcroft's first picture book, is a fun filled parade of bears of all shapes, sizes and colours. Big Bear takes Little Bear by the hand and off they go to see who they can see. Look it's... says Big Bear as they spot the parade and identify different bears. ...this bear, that bear, likes to wear a hat bear. As the two bears continue to follow the parade, steadily making their way along to the place where it finishes for the 'grand finale,' there is more and more to see and more for the two bears (and the reader) to look out for in the bright illustrations. Some bears are demonstrating their circus skills - clown bear in a clown car and about to fall down bear trying to walk on stilts, while others are riding on skateboards, dressed as fairies or playing musical instruments. The weather changes and day turns to night before the two bears finally return home and Baby Bear becomes tucked-up-tight-bear. ? Sian Wheatcroft is a self-taught illustrator who has clearly found her own distinctive style. The simple text rolls along nicely as it follows the parade of bears and stands reading again and again. This is a picture book that will appeal to very young children that love teddy bears and who will take time to pick out their favourites. -- Vicky Harvey * Armadillo *

About Sian Wheatcroft

Sian loved to draw from a very young age and has always had a vivid imagination. She studied Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University and after a long time experimenting with different mediums and crafts, started making traditional teddy bears and fun plush animals. This inspired her to start illustrating her characters and telling stories. Now, as a wife to a blind ultra-marathon runner with a cheeky guide dog and mum to two young boys, all of whom are a constant source of inspiration, she has found her passion in picture books. Sian also loves creating abstract art, drinking tea and eating biscuits.
